Fingering

Just as with scales, it is important to be precise about fingering in arpeggios. But it is not possible to give a universal fingering because hand size is a deciding factor. A general principle of arpeggio fingering is evenness of stretch between the fingers as far as is possible. Don’t avoid the 4th finger; its use is often essential for a good hand position. In a standard four-note arpeggio the thumb, 2nd and 5th will be obvious, but we will need to decide which remaining finger to use - is it 3rd, or is it 4th? This depends on hand...
