Chapter 25 - Transposing

Transposing is changing the key of a piece of music. The music will sound the same, but will be slightly lower or higher in pitch. Sometimes, singers will change the key of a piece so that it fits better within their range. Some instruments read their music at concert pitch while others read their music in a different key. These other instruments are known as transposing instruments. This is a historic anomaly that has advantages as well as some disadvantages.
