Study No. 1 is a study in spinning semiquavers based on an underlying scale pattern played by the 5th finger in held notes, followed by a broken triad with an expressive appoggiatura at each peak. The dynamic level is ff. The player will need to choreograph the finger movements together with lateral or circular arm movements to achieve the required velocity, adding touches of pedal to help create resonance.
