An understanding of harmony not only enhances our appreciation of how tonal music works, but also accelerates the learning process and keeps a piece more securely in our memory. Beethoven is heading back to the home key (C# minor), creating expectation by keeping the bass grounded on the dominant note (G#) while letting the right hand meander through broken chord patterns above.
