Introduction to Keyboard Harmony
24 Apr 2025 @ 18:30 BST (GMT +01:00)
Do you wish you could learn new pieces faster and understand music more deeply? Do you find traditional music theory abstract or disconnected from real playing?
Join Lona Kozik on Thursday, 24th April at 18:30 BST for a practical, hands-on introduction to keyboard harmony. Instead of studying theory away from the keyboard, you'll learn about harmony and develop a more intuitive understanding of music - all through engaging, practical exercises using the circle of fifths!
This exercises featured will help you:
- Build stronger harmony skills at the keyboard.
- Understand music theory in a practical way.
- Improve your ability to learn and memorise pieces.
- Train your ear and deepen your musicianship.
Who it's for
This event is for you if you:
- Want to build fluency with chord progressions at the keyboard.
- Are a theory student looking to connect your written knowledge to hands-on practice.
- Would like to unlock a more intuitive, embodied sense of harmony to support your playing or teaching.
How it works
In this 90-minute interactive workshop, Lona will guide you through a series of practical keyboard harmony exercises designed to deepen your understanding of common progressions and functional relationships between chords across different keys. Most importantly, you'll internalise these patterns physically—getting them into your fingers! You'll have the chance to play along from the comfort of your own home and ask questions throughout the session, with Lona offering tips and guidance as you go.
Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your understanding of harmony and musical structure in a natural and engaging way!
About Your Presenter – Lona Kozik
When I went to university, I was completely focussed on studying piano. But I quickly found that music theory helped me achieve many of my musical goals. Understanding music theory -
- improved my sight reading and quick study skills
- made memorising music much easier and more reliable
- heightened my musical expression at the piano
- gave me confidence as a teacher
- eventually led me to composing music
So I have a passion for teaching music theory - it is the key that unlocks all musical treasures!

"If you want to develop your sight reading do this workshop. Lona is inspiring and positive and she has a way of making theory and practice so utterly clear and accessible. Each bite-sized step is so fun! I couldn’t believe what was possible..."
- Mae Karthäuser
"I would say this workshop is a must. There are no books or courses that I have come across that actually teach you how to sight read. I have piano lessons but we don't manage to do theory and sight reading so it gets missed. And it's impossible to squeeze all of that into an hour a week or every other week. This is very focused and specific."
- Dawn Taylor-Moate
"I learnt so much that I can both apply to my own sight reading and pass onto my students. Time really well spent. Lona gives very clear explanations."
- Jeremy Wilkinson
