Schumann: Sicilianisch from Album for the Young Any piece that alternates between simple and compound time (6/8 to 2/4, for example) is excellent preparation for two-against-three polyrhythms in subsequent pieces. One elementary piece that stands out is Schumann’s Sicilianisch from Album for the Young. The piece is in ternary form – the A section in 6/8 and the B section in 2/4 (the running semiquaver patterns in the B section are actually good preparation for a 4:3 polyrhythm too).
