Do you ever feel like your technique is holding you back? Despite hours of practice, your playing still lacks fluidity and you spend ages on fixing technical issues rather than making music? Or does playing the piano feel harder than it should be, full of tension, fatigue and frustration?
Many pianists see technique as residing largely in the fingers, striving to achieve control with isolation exercises, drilling passages and simply "trying harder". But real control and technical freedom come from using the whole body and incorporating natural movement into our playing.
Join internationally acclaimed artist-teacher, Fred Karpoff for an online workshop on Saturday 31st May and experience a more natural, expressive way to play the piano. Using Fred’s signature three-dimensional technique, you’ll discover a whole-body approach to technique that invites ease instead of effort, enabling you to play with greater confidence, clarity and joy.
What you’ll learn
Why technique and artistry aren’t separate and how to integrate them from the start
How to identify tension-producing habits and replace them with efficient, fluid motion
How whole-body movement brings fluency and expression to key technical elements like scales, arpeggios, trills and tremolos
A practical way to recognise and shift movement patterns that interfere with musical flow
How it works
Fred will introduce and demonstrate key concepts, then guide attendees through experiential exercises designed to awaken a natural connection between movement and sound. While not required, being at your keyboard is encouraged so you can try these ideas in real time. The workshop will include time for questions and interactive exploration.
Note: This is a live-only event. No replay will be available, but you can choose one of two available times (11:00 and 15:00) - or join us for both!
Ticket price
Tickets cost only £15 (£9 for Online Academy subscribers) and you can choose between two live sessions on the day, either from 11:00 - 12:30 or 15:00 - 16:30 BST (GMT +1). Bonus video content from Fred’s upcoming course Mastering Intermediate Technique is also included!
