Playing Legato with Single Rotations

Up until now we have been exploring the basic rotary motions and their directions with no legato connections. The easiest way to move to legato is with a slow trill using different combinations of finger pairs. Remember the preliminary swing in the opposite direction as you engage with the keyboard. The image of a rocking chair might help – the rotary movement in the arm goes very slightly beyond the range of motion necessary to land in the key, as a way to get back in the other direction.
