The Exercises of Peter Feuchtwanger

Exercise No. 1

Finger Tapping

This exercise uses fingers 2, 3, 4 and 5 lined up over four adjacent white keys, the knuckles collapsed and fingers flat. The thumb hangs loosely off the keyboard. We use the other hand to tap the end of the key, and then the fingernail before the allowing the finger itself to play. Notice the passive sensations in the finger and arm during the first two stages and aim to replicate minimum effort when the finger takes the key unassisted.
