How to Develop Speed
Slow practice is only part of the story. Using the E-flat Impromptu of Schubert, I look at three different approaches to take the playing from The Speed of No Mistakes to a performance speed. We might use the old-fashioned incremental metronome approach (I don’t recommend this), or work on the RH patterns using a variety of different rhythms. My suggestion is to work on little bits fast – or chaining practice at full speed.
