To find the sound for the opening section, we might think in terms of a string quartet in which cello and second violin (bars 1-8) are in dialogue, the viola providing the harmony and the forward motion (the first violin joining in from bar 9). I demonstrate the practice tools “strands separately” and “miming” to help you balance the texture, encouraging singing of the lines as you practise.
