Piano Teachers' Course Live (Dec 2022) - Combined Ticket
Psychology, ABRSM repertoire & technique for musical freedom
The Piano Teachers’ Course UK is pleased to offer a new series of online workshops for piano players and teachers. Hosted in partnership with Informance Publishing, these workshops will give you ideas, inspiration and practical tips wherever you might be on your pianistic journey!
The new series kicks-off on 4th December 2022 with Lucinda Mackworth-Young, Jill Mortimer and Masayuki Tayama offering insights, inspiration and tips on teaching psychology, the new ABRSM syllabus and laying good technical foundations. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions during and after the event and will receive high-quality recordings of the sessions.
Schedule
Psychology for teaching, learning and performing (10:00 – 11:00am)
Lucinda Mackworth-Young, author of Tuning In: Practical Psychology for Musicians, specialises in putting psychology into relevant and accessible forms for music teaching, learning and performing. She helps teachers understand pupils; develop their teaching styles to suit pupils’ learning strategies; negotiate the terrain between emotion and motivation; and deal with many kinds of professional difficulties, including those with pupils’ parents.
Creative teaching of the new ABRSM syllabus (11:15am – 12:15pm)
Known by many as the go-to for recordings of the ABRSM syllabus repertoire on YouTube, Jill Morton has amassed over 1 million views on the platform for her performances, and is a highly experienced soloist and accompanist. Her perceptive insights into the 2023-24 ABRSM piano syllabus repertoire provide immediately-accessible ideas and inspiration for lessons to engage the imagination of pupils and spark their excitement for learning and playing.
Technique for musical freedom (12:30 – 13:30pm)
Masayuki Tayama, Director of the PTC UK, has a wide-ranging and varied career that has taken him across the world, performing and teaching. However, as a student, he experienced the difficulties of not being taught proper technique and now specialises in the Sumiko Mikimoto method of muscle relaxation and training for pianists. He has taught the next generation of young pianists at Chetham’s School of Music, and strongly advocates the importance of good technical foundations for musical progress and freedom.
