Choosing the Right Pieces

13 Sep 2025 @ 15:00 BST (GMT +01:00)

We've devoted many resources to learning new pieces, but what about the choice of piece? Selecting the right repertoire is essential for making progress and maintaining enthusiasm. The wrong choices can easily lead to stagnation or frustration!

In this online presentation, Graham Fitch explores the subject of choosing pieces that inspire you and support your pianistic development. Graham will draw upon his wealth of experience both as a teacher and consultant on several syllabuses and repertoire compilations to give tips and insights on:

  • Avoiding common pitfalls and finding pieces that keep you motivated and engaged
  • Finding pieces that are “just right” for your level, presenting some challenges while being mostly within your comfort zone
  • Discovering fresh repertoire, with ideas and suggestions from perennial favourites through to intriguing alternatives and hidden gems at different levels
  • Sourcing pieces that are musically interesting to improve specific areas of technique
  • Using quick studies and “easier” pieces to turbocharge your musical development

Bonus handout - By signing-up you will also get a handout packed with numerous ideas and resources for finding your perfect piece!
