Three-Dimensional Shaping (5.2)

Sonatina in C, Op. 55 No. 1 by Friedrich Kuhlau
- Note and practise the continuous counterclockwise arc of the three-dimensional form in the right hand in the opening figure of this Sonatina.
- Consciously observe and isolate other figures (such as one-octave arpeggios, two-note slurs, other eighth-note figures) for targeted application of three-dimensional shaping.

Prelude in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 81 No. 10 by Stephen Heller
- Heller’s Prelude allows you to practise four-note slurs in a variety of black / white combinations. Use the notated fingering to play successive four-note groupings with three-dimensional shaping.
- Plan and gauge carefully to accurately play the larger intervals between finger 4 and 5

Prelude in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 81 No. 10 by Stephen Heller
- Carefully isolate the left-hand passages that also are composed of successive four-note slurs.

Sonata in C Minor, C. 68, by Domenico Cimarosa
- As demonstrated in the video, experiment with different groupings of the triplets to notice differences in technical execution and also musical intention.
- Experiment by practicing leaving out the second of each triplet eighth, as demonstrated, to heighten your sense of the undercurrent of dance in this compound meter.
