Touches for Beginners

In this video, I suggest some basic touches for beginners, which will also prove very useful for those who are a little further down the road, but who are experiencing tension or stiffness in their playing. We start with whole-arm drops on one finger, experiencing a loose, free arm combined with a strong finger that grasps the key firmly. We proceed to two-note slurs (drop-roll) with pairs of fingers, sensing a deep connection into the keyboard, progressing to longer slurs and finally five-finger positions where the legato is controlled by the arm (rather than isolated fingers). ...
